As 2018 comes to a close, it’s easy for everything to feel like a competition. For example, you may find yourself working longer hours to get pending business issued and in force, or experiencing the pressures from an impending sales goal. Or maybe you’re looking at getting ahead of 2019 by building your book of business with new sales opportunities.
But regardless of how you’re spending this year-end season, I’d like to slow down and celebrate some of the biggest wins we accomplished together over 2018. At the end of the day, here are the ways that we keep score—the victories that truly matter:
- Protective paid 40,285 death claims in 2018.
- Totaling in $2,504,810,669 paid in benefits.
- You helped us protect 102,726 lives this year.
And these are more than just numbers.
Each number is an individual’s story. The numbers represent the families that can continue living the lifestyle they worked so hard to achieve. They symbolize the businesses that keep going in spite of the loss of an owner or key employee. They represent the college educations un-deferred and dignified retirements realized. In no small manner, they are the hopes and dreams of millions of families that we as an industry help people attain and protect.
This is the social mission of our profession. This is why, unlike any other, our profession matters.

The assurance we’re able to provide is made a reality because you cared enough to ensure clients had the protection they needed. As I reflect on this, I can’t help but thank you for the support over 2018, for your business and most importantly, the incredible work you did for those 40,285 families.
